DESCRIPTION: In the harsh savannah of Africa, there lives a large and formidable herbivore found across sub-Saharan Africa. It has a sturdy, muscular body covered in a dark blue coat and one of its most distinctive features is its horns, which are heavy and curved, often merging at the base to form a shield-like structure called a “boss.”
Currently, the species is facing near extinction, with only a few individuals left in the wild. Their habitat is threatened by fragmentation, which is caused when the vast grasslands they live in is divided by unsustainable development. There is still hope left through various conservation efforts and breeding in captivity as these would help bring the species back to its former glory.
